Pacifica, San Mateo County
Pacifica stretches for six miles along the ocean just south of San Francisco. Its concrete pier, built in 1973, is a favorite spot for crabbing and salmon fishing, and Linda Mar Beach at the south end is where many Bay Area surfers catch their first wave. Beyond it, Highway 1 enters a pair of tunnels that replaced the cliff road at Devil's Slide in 2013.
